The She-Beast  (1966)

(Foreign Titles)
Nomination Year: 2006
SYNOPSIS: One thing about this movie that differentiates it from others of its ilk is that it makes a plot point of the fact that in the 1960s, Transylvania was part of a Communist country (Van Helsing's castle has been taken by the government, etc). It features Kommunist Keystone Kops, and was an Italian/Yugoslavian co-production.

As for the actual plot, a young couple goes on honeymoon in Transylvania. They suffer a traffic accident, and their VW goes into the lake. Only the husband emerges. The wife has somehow physically become the witch who was drowned in that lake nearly 200 years ago. She starts to kill the descendants of the villagers who killed her. The husband (and the 16th Count Van Helsing) try to track her down in order to rescue his wife from within her.
