Mythica 3: The Necromancer
Tagline(s):The Battle Continues
Nomination Year: 2025
SYNOPSIS:

Another in the Mythica series of "Let's Kickstart a movie based on our D&D campaign and 5 minutes of Kevin Sorbo." As usual, it borders on being too good for our purposes without ever quite managing to get over that line.

This one opens with the heroes' celebration -- well, actually it opens with a five-minute Kevin-Sorbo-training-the-heroine montage so he can get his cameo out of the way. But then it segues back to the heroes' celebration of their victory in the last movie. The fighter and the cleric finally sleep together. Unfortunately, the cleric's power was apparently virginity-based and she loses her connection with her goddess and all her spells. (OOPS!) Double unfortunately, the fighter gets captured by the thieves' guild, who force the rest of the party to go on a quest to find a missing drug shipment in exchange for his freedom.

To ensure they're doing the job, the guild sends along an evil druid (whose animal companion is a swarm of beetles) to keep track of them. Hijinks ensue. The cleric must earn back the favor of her goddess. The wizard must confront her destiny. The fighter must not die in captivity. And the rogue must hit on everything in sight. We see the filmmaker's vision of organized warfare in a high-magic world (basically WWI trench warfare), pass a Survival check to avoid a random encounter with dire wolves, and, inevitably, stumble across another piece of the Darkspore. As the Mythica series progresses, the ideas are getting more clever, the spell SFX are getting better, the plot is getting more contrived, the dialogue is getting much, much worse, and Kevin Sorbo's paychecks keep not bouncing. Probably.
