A Pointed Pointless Death
At the beginning of the film, a scientific observation team is in orbit, and they're being approached by a second ship adrift in space (the ship carrying the cyborg, but we don't know that yet). For some reason that seems good at the time, they are unable to change course, and brace for impact. As the second ship slams into and tears partially through the first one, the pointy spike at the front of the second space ship actually impales one of the scientists, who dies almost immediately thereafter. The rest of the plot does likewise in short order.
