Fiend without a Face  (1958)
Nomination Year: 1998
SYNOPSIS: There's a top-secret U.S. air force base in Canada (British Columbia -- where they grow the finest coffee in the world ... and boil it). A scientist is conducting experiments which spin out of control due to the nearby nuclear power plant (you want details? too bad). Mysterious disappearances are caused by what turn out to be brain-like creatures that move on stalks (suspiciously spinal-looking stalks). The creatures attack the airbase, attempting to take control of the nuclear reactor that (somehow) fuels them and powers their unnatural energies.

The Crawling Stop-Motion Brains
They're brains that crawl around what appear to be spines (and neural ganglia). When hit with sledgehammers, they lead to the saying of things like "With a brain like Smuckers, it has to be good."

Worst Science
It Won't Respond to the Switches -- Blow It Up!
Yes -- the scientists decide that the best way to stop the floating brain things is to stop the nuclear reactor. And the best way to stop the nuclear reactor is to blow up the control room.
