Nemesis 4: Cry of Angels  (1997)
[+]
(Foreign Titles)
Nomination Year: 2008
SYNOPSIS: As you may remember, Nemesis 3 had about 10 minutes of real-time action, the rest being either a flashback to Nemesis 2 or a flashback to the first half of the events that took place between the end of Nemesis 2 and the start of Nemesis 3. The rest of the flashback was TO BE CONTINUED IN NEMESIS 4. Nemesis 4 opens with the obligatory Nemesis 2 and 3 flashbacks. Then we learn that it's a hundred years in the future, the Human-Cyborg War is over and most of the veterans work as assassins for organized crime syndicates. "DNA human" Alex is one of these, doing her last hit before retirement. But she kills the wrong target, the son of a powerful drug lord, and suddenly every hit man on the planet is after her. There's lots of gunplay, creepily-kinky sex, and stoned college student philosophy. What there is not is any reference to the Nemesis 3 cliffhanger. Indeed, the only connection to the previous Nemesis movies is that the same actress is playing a character with the same name. And the flashbacks. Always the flashbacks.

Director's Fantasy?
Wherein we learn far more about the director's fantasy life than we really want to. There's Sue Price (the female bodybuilder), and a male cyborg, and a metallic probe, and ... I've already said too much!

Crummiest Ending
Flashback...back..back...back...
The villain decides to help the heroes out after they mortally wound him. Then we reprise the entire movie in flashbacks, along with some highlights from Nemeses 2 and 3 (some of which we already saw in the opening flashback... so maybe they're actually just flashbacks to the earlier flashback scene in this movie. In fact, maybe the earlier Nemesis 2 flashbacks were actually just flashbacks to the flashback sequence in Nemesis 3. Making this a flashback to the earlier Nemesis 4 flashback of the Nemesis 3 flashback of Nemesis 2. My head hurts.).
